Spring 2008 NRO

Spring 2008 NRO

hosted by Northern New Jersey Grotto

May 16-18, 2008

What

What is the NRO?  The Northeastern Regional Organization (NRO) of the National Speleological Society (NSS) comprises a geographical area of the northeast United States and Eastern Canada. Membership is made up of NSS grottos (clubs) and affiliates throughout this area.

What is an NRO event? A regional meeting of the NRO is held twice a year, in May and September, which is hosted by a NRO grotto or affiliate This is a weekend event open to cavers, their families, and friends; and planned to be easily affordable. You do not need to be a member of a regional group to attend. While many go caving, the location of NROs is usually in an area with local hiking, kayaking, and sightseeing.

Activities and Events: The Snyder Estate is a historic mine baron's estate with a cavernous limestone mine on the property, as well as local caves and other mines nearby. In addition there are numerous other activities in the area to enjoy:

After a fun day in the local outdoors you can come back to the Snyder Estate to enjoy a delicious meal, campfires, A hot tub, Speakers of interest concerning caving and a night of musical entertainment, with the novel experience of having the festivities in the mine itself!

Auction: There will be the usual and fun auction at NRO.
Bring your stuff! Bring your junk it will be anothers treasure!
Popular stuff is cave related items, also camping gear is always useful. Bring the common, bring the obscure; as long as you don't need it bring it, it's for the best of causes caves and caving!

What to Bring: Camping gear and caving gear are obvious. There are some meals sold (see Meals). Bring everything and anything you might need if you have the room, especially clothes (and footwear) for the possibility of wet and cold weather. Bring food and munchies and such so time isn't wasted looking for a store, which may be a long distance from the campground. A headlamp just for use around the campground is suggested.
